De De De Design! And Other Life Things

I want to write and I want to have things to say, but I'm also having trouble staying on top of things.  So here's a quick update on the things keeping me up late, filling my heart with joy, and my body with fatigue.

Current Projects:
  • A super secret design project.  I can't talk about this until my client announces themselves, BUT I can tell you it's political.
  • My own website.  I really want to get this done in the next week, but we'll see.  Client projects come first.)

  • A real estate website for my brother-in-law.  The website itself should be fairly simple.  Drawing the caricature, setting up photo galleries for the properties, and building an online application, not so much.

  • Summer school.  I'm taking Typography, which I thought would be an easy one for the short summer session, ha!  The schedule is tight!
Learning about Grids!
  • Planning final details for the elopement.  It's not a huge endeavor, like most traditional weddings, but there's still a few things that need attention.
  • Physical therapy.  I have 3 appointments a week for the next 3 weeks, and a whole set of exercises I'm supposed to do in my off time.
I guess that's about it.  I'm thrilled to have client projects, enjoying my class, happy to be getting my life stuff in order, and desperately wanting to update my website to reflect some of the things I'm learning in school.  But it is a little overwhelming all at once.

My mantra before was "just have to make it through June" and I guess now it's "just have to make it through August."  We'll see.  If the client work stays this steady, I'll be very tempted to strike out on my own again and attempt to make my business my primary source of income.  But that's also terrifying because it's so inconsistent.  I'm not sure I can handle a feast and famine lifestyle.

Oh, and I didn't make a big deal about this (no existential blog posts or anything), but I'm 28 now.  My birthday was Monday.  A fresh new year of life and a fresh new set of mistakes to make!

What have you been up to lately?  Have you ever been self employed?  Like it/love it/find it terrifying?

  1. Happy belated birthday and congrats on all the projects you've got! I'd be so intimidated to be my own boss!

  4. I have thought about taking extra classes for the benefit of taking them, but I haven't found any all online ones. Where are you taking your typography class, if you don't mind me asking? The websites look great, especially like the real estate design and colors.

  5. It's funny to hear you say plan and elopement, I'm pretty sure you're not suppose to plan them. :)
