The Wedding - Pictures and a Story

Having been married for all of 9 days, this is probably the time that I'm supposed to come up with some humorous, sentimental, but ultimately naive tips on what I've learned in my first week of marriage.  I won't do that, though, because it's silly and I obviously haven't had time to learn much of anything yet.  Oh!  Except that I call Ryan "boyfriend" far more often than I realized.

Instead I'll just give you the elopement highlights.

When we were taking fancy pre-wedding photos and we broke this chair.

My hilarious sisters.  Everyone else, too, and how awesomely they fulfilled their roles in our murder mystery game.

During the ceremony when everyone's readings were hilarious, but Ryan's vows almost made me cry, but then my vows mentioned crying and the irony made me laugh instead.

All our struggles to get the tiki torches lit, how we ended up using the burners for the catered BBQ, and how awesome they looked as a trail coming up the path of the dunes.

The bonfire and our sky lanterns, after the wind finally shifted in the right direction to not burn down the dunes.

How gorgeous the beach is at nighttime.

A few days later, on the horse tour when we saw this adorable baby.

Oh!  And I have a story.  No pictures, though.  Which is a good thing because it involves cupcakes and they weren't really photo worthy by the end.

The night before the ceremony, Sister2, Sister3, Roommate and I assembled s'mores cupcakes (just like the ones pictured in this post).  We then put them away to be served after the BBQ following our ceremony.  At some point during the game the next day, we noticed that they'd been re-plated.  I thought nothing of it but then Officiant said something like, "Oh yeah, we thought they'd look nicer on those plates" and Sister3's deception sensors caught him immediately (she's amazing at picking up on vague or inconsistent statements).

"YOU ATE SOME!!!"

We all laughed hysterically as the story came out and he confessed that he, along with Brother-in-Law, had indeed consumed some of the cupcakes and thought to hide it by putting them on a smaller plate.  No big deal; still plenty for later.

We continued on with our day, played the murder mystery, had ourselves a wedding, some BBQ, and headed out to the beach for the bonfire.  I decided to enjoy myself a delicious (if somewhat unexpectedly mauled) cupcake.  Halfway through Roommate said, "I'm going to tell you something horrible, but finish your cupcake first."

Suspicious but also determined to enjoy my cupcake, I complied and then waited to be filled in.  Turns out the cupcakes has been discovered by ants and the guys, far from helping themselves, had actually saved them!  They threw away the most ant-covered and painstakingly picked the ants out of the other ones, hoping we wouldn't notice so we could still enjoy the dessert we'd made.

Honestly, I think it's even funnier that way.  AND I'm super glad I didn't get mad when we thought they ate them.  A good reminder to roll with the punches.

Anyway, I'm thrilled, obviously, to have had such an amazing wedding/elopement/whatever and to be married to such a wonderful man.  Eventually I might even remember to refer to him as "husband."

And the funny thing is, I think the things I liked most were the "mistakes" and the unscripted moments.  Here's hoping we take that ability to weather mishaps into the future with us.

What's your best wedding story?  Any mishaps that turned into funny memories?

  3. aw how fun! love your dress. still laughing over the broken chair though :) it took me a few months to get used to calling him husband lol. i skipped fiance, i hate that word lol. i don't think we really had any mishaps on the actual day.. i fell down twice, once while dancing and the other time back in the hotel room i fell ON the bath.. it's kind of funny now but not really because my tailbone is still a bit sore ;)

  4. Awwww you guys are so cute! Congrats again! I agree, being able to roll with the punches and the "mistakes" are what make the memories last longer. My friend got married during Hurricane Irene (2011)-- THAT was quite an experience! Her shuttle service cancelled at the last minute (she had a shuttle from hotel to catering hall and back) and the hotel and catering hall lost power for a bit, but it was definitely memorable!

    1. It was! Perfect in that it didn't matter if it was perfect because we only had 10 guests instead of 100. Every problem was hilarious because it was so low pressure and no one would have been too upset if they didn't get solved at all.
