Clothing Swap! (AKA the Get Naked Party)

I did it and it was awesome!  /post

Just kidding!!!  Although I maybe shouldn't bother to post about this because I didn't take a single damn picture during the event.  Normally my lack of picture taking doesn't bother me but this was one where the sheer amount of clothes was truly impressive.  I started out with the (cleared-out) hall closet, and an extra table I'd placed in the living room.  By the end, we'd also commandeered most of the couch, the end tables, and the island in the kitchen.

I knew my friends were close-ish in size, but I didn't realize how good of a match we'd all be!  I think I ended up with at least one new item from each person.  People left with new shirts, dresses, jewelry, purses, shoes, even a K-cup display holder!  It was glorious!

My new wardrobe additions!

The event itself was a ton of fun.  I was lazy and bought a smorgasbord of hummus, veggies, cheese, and crackers (rather than cook anything), but Roommate made us chocolate-covered strawberries (despite my insistence that he could not stay for the event).  One exceedingly well-prepared friend brought alcohol, apples, and her own pitcher, and made us caramel apple sangria, which was freaking amazing (and so very Fall!).

I kicked the guys out, borrowed a 2nd mirror from my neighbor, and we went at it!  No modesty needed here - trying things on happened in the living room, the kitchen, anywhere there was space.  I held conversations while in my bra, received compliments upon said bra, and thoroughly enjoyed myself and my friend's company.

The best part?  No one went totally overboard.  Everyone left with a couple things, but not nearly as much as they brought over.  Which means we all get new stuff AND we can successfully say we cleared out our closets.  Not to mention that my local Goodwill is going to make out like a bandit.

(At least I documented the unattractive pile of boxes...)

And that's a wrap!  A couple ladies said they could probably do an event like this several times a year, but I'm hoping to implement a one-in-one-out policy and not allow my closet to get overcrowded again.  Easier said than done, though!  We'll see...

Have you ever attended a clothing swap?  How often do you rotate out clothes?

  1. Wait what? This sounds like a fabulous idea. My only problem is my clothes won't fit anyone. :(

  2. I'll be honest, I've never heard of these. Sounds pretty cool, though, if you have similarly sized friends. I recently made my first ThredUp order, and getting previously worn clothes felt just like getting new clothes :).

  5. What a fun idea!!! I used to trade out clothes with a few girls when we were in college. Now I just give all my stuff to my sister and what she doesn't want out of it she takes it to the daycare where she used to work and there are several girls there that fight over it lol.

  6. this is such a good idea! I would love to do something like this, but I have 3 friends here (at least, in this city) and we are all different shapes and sizes haha.

  7. Awesome idea! I love the "new" blue and black dress! Sadly I don't have any friends my size. Womp. I usually switch out seasonally. I actually started the rotation to fall last night. That sangria sounds delish- that's a good friend right there :)
